Congratulates Dr. Sylvia Rios on her 2025 retirement as superintendent of Laredo Independent School District after nearly 50 years in education

Dr. Rios joined Laredo ISD in 2001 as principal of Joseph W. Nixon High School, became chief academic officer, and was unanimously voted superintendent in 2017, overseeing approximately 24,000 students across 34 campuses

Under her leadership, the district received 11 National Blue Ribbon School titles and maintained a 22-year streak of "Superior" financial ratings from the Texas Education Agency

Oversaw $152 million in bond-funded construction and renovation projects, including new schools, refurbished vocational facilities, and upgraded administrative spaces

Expanded programs for student success including dual-enrollment, early college designations, career certification, and military readiness opportunities
