Texas House of Representatives honors Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on his election as the 267th bishop of Rome on May 8, 2025, taking the papal name Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV is the first pontiff from the Augustinian order and the first from the United States and North America, born in Chicago, Illinois on September 14, 1955

His career includes missionary work in Peru beginning in 1985, serving as bishop of Chiclayo in 2015, and appointment as prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and president of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America in 2023

Pope Francis created him a cardinal in 2024 and elevated him to the Order of Bishops in 2025 with the title of the Suburbicarian Church of Albano

Resolution directs that an official copy be prepared and sent to Pope Leo XIV as an expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives
