Texas House of Representatives honors Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on his election as the 267th bishop of Rome on May 8, 2025, taking the papal name Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV is the first pope from the Augustinian order and the first from the United States and North America, born in Chicago, Illinois on September 14, 1955

His career includes missionary work in Peru beginning in 1985, appointment as bishop of Chiclayo in 2015, and promotion to archbishop and prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops in 2023

The resolution directs that an official copy be prepared and sent to Pope Leo XIV as an expression of high regard from the Texas House of Representatives
