Texas House of Representatives pays tribute to Dr. Nedra Kay Swart Kinerk of McAllen, who passed away on May 13, 2025, at age 92

Dr. Kinerk earned a doctorate from Ball State University in 1970, served as professor and chair of the education division at Indiana University Kokomo until her retirement in 1988, and served 14 years as an Indiana Civil Rights Commissioner

Cofounded the civic organization Futuro McAllen in 1999, which expanded to become Futuro RGV in 2014, and helped establish the McAllen Heritage Center and Fiesta de Palmas festival

Received numerous honors including the Sagamore of the Wabash from Indiana's governor in 1987, McAllen's Woman of the Year in 2014, RGV Walk of Fame induction in 2020, and Dr. Nedra Kinerk Day proclaimed by McAllen on February 24, 2025

Resolution unanimously adopted by rising vote on May 23, 2025, directing the House to adjourn in her memory
