Tony Harper retired as head coach of Cathedral High School boys' basketball in El Paso at the end of the 2024-2025 season, concluding a coaching career spanning nearly six decades that began in 1968

Harper coached at four El Paso schools: Burges High School (14 years as head coach), El Paso High School (5 years), Montwood High School (23 years as inaugural coach), and Cathedral High School (2013-2025)

His final game on February 11, 2025, was a 59-33 victory over Lydia Patterson Institute, recording his 1,159th career win

Harper was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, named 2013 National High School Boys' Basketball Coach of the Year, and 2012 UIL Texas High School Basketball Coach of the Year

Montwood High School renamed its basketball facility "Tony Harper Gymnasium" in his honor prior to his 2013 departure
