Irving Fire Department was established in 1925 with 20 volunteers serving a one-square-mile area using a four-wheel pull cart with a 20-gallon water barrel

The department has grown to over 400 personnel protecting more than 250,000 residents across 68 square miles, operating 13 stations with 13 engines, 5 trucks, and 11 ambulances

Services now include EMS, swift-water rescue, hazardous materials response, and technical rescue teams

The department holds an Insurance Services Office Class 1 rating, placing it among the top one percent of fire departments nationwide for capabilities and standards
