Texas House of Representatives commemorates the 100th anniversary of Route 66, established in 1926 by the Bureau of Public Roads as part of the nation's first federal highway system

Route 66 stretched 2,400 miles from Chicago through St. Louis to Los Angeles, with approximately 200 miles passing through Texas and its geographical midpoint located in Adrian, Texas

The highway was officially decommissioned in 1985 after I-40 bypassed its last section in 1984, though more than 150 miles of the original route in Texas remain drivable today

Congress established the Route 66 Centennial Commission in 2020 to prepare for centennial celebrations, and the Texas Legislature previously designated the state's segment as a historic corridor

The resolution extends best wishes to preservation groups and directs that an official copy be sent to the Old Route 66 Association of Texas, which has promoted tourism and restoration since 1990
