Daniel Chris Graney of San Antonio passed away on July 11, 2024, at age 75; he was born May 16, 1949, in Norfolk, Nebraska and spent part of his youth in foster care before being adopted at age 18

Ordained as a Lutheran minister, he served San Francisco's Mission District Hispanic community and later worked as a paralegal for undocumented immigrants in Houston; he was elected bishop but forced to resign after church officials learned of his same-sex relationship

Graduated as valedictorian from Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 1987 and practiced immigration law in San Antonio until retiring due to health issues in 1993

Co-founded the Stonewall Democrats of San Antonio, served as chair of the Bexar County Democratic Party, and as co-chair of the Community Alliance for a United San Antonio helped secure passage of a citywide nondiscrimination ordinance in 2013

The Texas House of Representatives unanimously adopted this resolution on June 1, 2025, adjourning in his memory
