Deputy Melissa Pollard of the Wood County Sheriff's Office died in the line of duty on April 9, 2025, at age 47

She served 22 years in law enforcement, beginning in Collin County in 2003, transferring to Fannin County in 2013, and joining the Wood County Sheriff's Office in 2016

She earned certifications as an advanced peace officer, field training officer, instructor, training coordinator, jailer, and school-based law enforcement officer, and was awarded the Police Cross

Outside of work, she supported Project Lifesaver for individuals with cognitive disorders and advocated for animal welfare through the SPCA

The Texas House of Representatives unanimously adopted this resolution on May 23, 2025, adjourning in her memory and extending condolences to her family
