Augusta McCray Dixon is celebrating 40 years of teaching at Booker T. Washington Elementary School in Port Arthur Independent School District in 2025, having begun her career there in 1985

Dixon, a Cass County native, graduated in the top 10 percent of her high school class at age 16 and became the first in her family to earn a college degree from Wiley College

She serves as a second-grade math and science teacher and has led the school's gifted and talented program while mentoring fellow educators

Dixon was named 2014 Teacher of the Year and has supported students beyond academics by providing clothing, school supplies, and other assistance

The Texas House of Representatives adopted this resolution on May 23, 2025, by non-record vote to congratulate her and express appreciation for her service
