James Steven Strain of Abilene passed away on September 19, 2024, at age 68; he was born January 16, 1956, and attended Cooper High School and The University of Texas at Austin

Strain led his family's highway construction company, J. H. Strain & Sons, growing it into a four-generation business and serving as area chair of the Association of General Contractors

He held leadership roles with The National Exchange Club, Serenity House, Saint Paul United Methodist Church board, and Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest

He is survived by wife Cindy, sons Ross and Whit, grandchildren Austin and Alex, and siblings Jayne and Kent

The Texas House of Representatives unanimously adopted this memorial resolution on May 23, 2025, and adjourned in his memory
