The Texas House of Representatives commemorates the 50th anniversary of the City of Jamaica Beach on May 24, 2025

Jamaica Beach was established in 1975 after residents voted 71-3 to incorporate, following a court battle against annexation by the City of Galveston

The area was originally developed in the 1950s by the Jamaica Corporation as a resort-style subdivision with over 1,000 lots, more than 300 homes by 1965, and amenities including a marina, swimming lagoon, riding stables, and the Karankawa Indian Museum

The original development went bankrupt during an economic downturn, but homeowners persevered through fires, floods, and hurricanes to eventually incorporate as an independent city

Resolution was adopted by the House on May 23, 2025, by non-record vote
