Public elementary and secondary schools must display a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments in a conspicuous place in each classroom beginning with the 2025-2026 school year

Posters must be at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall, with text legible from anywhere in the classroom, and must contain only the specified Ten Commandments text with no additional content

Schools must accept privately donated posters that meet requirements but may use district funds to purchase compliant posters if needed

The Texas Attorney General is required to defend any public school in lawsuits arising from compliance with this requirement, with the state liable for all expenses, costs, judgments, or settlements

No public elementary or secondary school is exempt from this requirement under any other law
