Adds legislative employees (as defined by Section 306.008, Government Code) to the list of persons who may be excused from grand jury service, but only if the service would occur during a legislative session

Maintains existing excuses for grand jury service: persons over 70 years old, caregivers of children under 18, secondary school students, students enrolled and attending higher education institutions, and anyone the court determines has a reasonable excuse

Applies only to grand jury proceedings that begin on or after the effective date; proceedings that began earlier remain governed by prior law

Takes effect immediately upon receiving a two-thirds vote from both legislative chambers, otherwise takes effect September 1, 2025
