Allows courts to issue family violence protective orders for periods exceeding two years, including lifetime orders that last for the lives of both the protected persons and the person subject to the order

Removes previous restrictions that required specific aggravating circumstances (such as felony offense, serious bodily injury, or two prior protective orders) before a court could issue an extended protective order beyond two years

Limits extended protective orders to apply only to persons found to have committed family violence

Repeals Section 85.001(d) of the Family Code

Applies only to protective orders rendered on or after September 1, 2025; orders issued before that date remain governed by prior law
