TX SB2229

Requires a judge to order a change of venue in criminal cases where the defendant is a current or former peace officer charged with an offense allegedly committed under color of their employment as a peace officer

Allows the venue change motion to be filed by the prosecuting attorney, the defendant, or initiated by the judge on their own motion

Applies only to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025; offenses committed before that date remain governed by existing law

Adds new Article 31A.0021 to the Code of Criminal Procedure under Subchapter A, Chapter 31A
