Expands eligibility for survivor benefits under Chapter 615 of the Government Code to include deaths of public safety employees caused by acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) or stroke occurring during or within 24 hours after performing line-of-duty actions

Current law limits survivor benefits to deaths resulting from personal injuries sustained in the line of duty; this bill adds heart attacks and strokes as qualifying causes of death

Eligible survivors include the surviving spouse, surviving children (if no spouse), or surviving parents (if no spouse or children)

Applies only to deaths occurring on or after the effective date; deaths before that date remain governed by prior law

Takes effect September 1, 2025
