Requires the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to establish and maintain a mandatory training program of at least two hours for peace officers on interacting with persons with autism spectrum disorder

Training must be evidence-based and cover identifying individuals with autism spectrum disorder, effective communication techniques, de-escalation strategies, and interviewing best practices

Officers must learn how to locate individuals with autism who have run away, recognize when such individuals may be victims of abuse or criminal exploitation, and ensure their safety in correctional facilities

Training must include understanding laws regarding emergency detention and taking persons into custody under the Health and Safety Code

Applies to officers who begin satisfying minimum curriculum requirements on or after January 1, 2026, with the act taking effect September 1, 2025
