Former state legislators are prohibited from engaging in lobbying activities that require registration until after the final adjournment of the second regular legislative session following their departure from office (approximately 4 years)

Exemptions allow former legislators to lobby without compensation (except expense reimbursement) on behalf of nonprofit organizations, individuals, low-income groups, or groups of individuals with disabilities

Violations constitute a Class A misdemeanor criminal offense

The restriction applies only to legislators who leave office on or after September 1, 2025

The bill amends Chapter 572 of the Government Code by adding Section 572.062
