Removes the requirement that autism spectrum disorder diagnosis must occur before age 10 for treatment coverage, allowing coverage from the date of diagnosis regardless of age

Expands the definition of autism spectrum disorder to include diagnoses made under the DSM-5 or later editions, as well as diagnoses made under previous DSM editions (autism, Asperger's syndrome, or PDD-NOS)

Requires health benefit plans to cover any "medically necessary" treatment for autism spectrum disorder, with detailed criteria defining medical necessity including addressing patient needs, preventing regression, and maintaining skills

Prohibits health plans from limiting practitioners' ability to perform evaluations or restricting the settings where autism services can be provided, except where services are covered through Medicaid

Applies to health benefit plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, with an effective date of September 1, 2025
