Expands firearm-free zones around schools from just school property to within 1,000 feet of school premises, measured from the school's property boundary line, for offenses related to possessing, carrying, exhibiting, or using firearms

Creates a new criminal offense under Penal Code Section 46.03(a)(1-a) for intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possessing or going with a firearm within the expanded 1,000-foot school zone, unless authorized by written school regulations

Establishes defenses for lawful firearm possession within the 1,000-foot zone if the firearm is at the person's private residence (not on school grounds) or stored in a private vehicle transiting through the zone without entering school grounds

Extends the offense of exhibiting, using, or threatening to use a firearm in a manner intended to cause alarm, injury, or property damage to cover areas within 1,000 feet of school property, not just on school premises

Takes effect September 1, 2025, and applies only to offenses committed on or after that date
