School districts must approve transfer requests for children of peace officers to another campus within the district or to any other school district in Texas, regardless of whether an inter-district transfer agreement exists between the districts

Both the sending and receiving school districts are required to approve these transfers without exception when requested by a peace officer parent or person standing in parental relation

School districts cannot charge tuition fees to students who transfer under this provision

Districts of innovation cannot be exempt from these peace officer student transfer requirements in their local innovation plans

Applies beginning with the 2025-2026 school year; takes effect immediately with two-thirds legislative vote or September 1, 2025
