Physicians whose practice includes treating pregnant women must complete at least one hour of continuing education in Texas adoption law when renewing their license

Required training topics include voluntary termination of parental rights, the process for releasing newborns to adoption agencies or the Department of Family and Protective Services, safe haven laws for abandoned children, financial assistance available to expectant mothers choosing adoption, and differences between private and foster care adoption

New physicians must complete the one-hour requirement in each of their first two license renewal periods, with at least one hour completed within the first year of initial registration

After the initial period, physicians must complete at least two hours of adoption-related continuing education every eight years

Texas Medical Board must adopt implementing rules by December 1, 2025, with the law taking effect September 1, 2025
