Served as vice president of communications, policy, and strategy at the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, advocating for consumers' and workers' rights

Purchased and revitalized the town of Martindale, Texas in the early 2000s, and served as CEO and publisher of the Texas Observer before continuing as a board member and proofreader until his death

Resolution adopted by the Texas Senate on June 1, 2025, by rising vote, with the Senate adjourning in his memory
