Began his career as a truck driver at age 14 and continued working in the trucking industry until his death

Was married to his wife Martha for 67 years and had three children: Mitch, Don, and Kimberly, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren

Resolution adopted by the Texas Senate on May 31, 2025, by a rising vote, with the Senate adjourning that day in his memory
