Served as president of the Texas Vocational Administrators and Supervisors Association and retired from education in 1990, later working as a security guard for Texas Utilities for another decade

Active in community service as president of Mount Pleasant Kiwanis Club, board member of Titus County Child Protective Services, and congregant of Friendly Baptist Church in Tyler

Resolution adopted by the Texas Senate on May 31, 2025, by a rising vote, extending condolences to his wife OraLee, three children, stepchildren, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren
