H.R. 7152 - Yes in God's Backyard Act

• Establishes a HUD technical assistance program to help faith-based organizations, colleges/universities, and local governments develop affordable rental housing on their properties, with $25 million authorized for FY2026 and $10 million annually for FY2027-2031

• Creates a competitive Challenge Grant program for state and local governments that have policies removing barriers to affordable housing development on faith-based and higher education property, with $50 million authorized annually for FY2026-2031

• Defines affordable rental housing as units with monthly rent not exceeding 30% of household income for families at or below 100% of area median income

• Grants priority to projects serving households below 60% of area median income, extremely low-income families, homeless individuals and veterans, people with disabilities, and intergenerational families

• Permits grant funds to be used for removing local policy barriers, providing outreach and technical assistance, making project grants and loans, and other activities furthering affordable housing production and preservation
