House Resolution supporting World Drowning Prevention Day (July 25), as established by UN General Assembly resolution in April 2021

Drowning is the third-leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide, accounting for 7% of all injury-related deaths and more than 2.5 million preventable deaths in the past decade

Over 90% of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries, in rivers, lakes, wells, domestic water storage vessels, and swimming pools

World Health Organization identifies six low-cost prevention interventions: teaching swimming and water safety skills, providing safe spaces for preschoolers, installing water barriers, training bystanders in rescue and resuscitation, enforcing boating regulations, and improving flood risk management

Encourages intergovernment cooperation to develop drowning prevention policies, legislation, and investment, and to convene multisectoral discussions
