Asylum applications would be permitted only at official ports of entry, eliminating the ability to apply for asylum after entering the U.S. between ports of entry

Aliens applying for asylum at ports of entry would be prohibited from being paroled or released into the United States while their applications are pending

Aliens apprehended inside the U.S. who entered without inspection, or who overstayed their authorized period, would be ineligible to apply for asylum under the port-of-entry requirement

Authority over asylum determinations would be shared between the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security
