Veterans may use GI Bill and other educational assistance benefits to pay for examinations and assessments that award college credit toward degrees at approved institutions of higher learning

Covered examinations include DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, National Career Readiness Certificate exams, and portfolio assessments demonstrating prior military training

Maximum reimbursement is capped at $500 per examination or the actual cost charged, whichever is less

Entitlement charges are calculated by dividing the exam cost by the veteran's monthly benefit rate, converting to a fractional month of benefits used

Using VA educational benefits for these exams does not affect separate Department of Defense Tuition Assistance Program entitlements
