Federal agencies are required to adopt the standards after the President issues implementation requirements through the Office of Science and Technology Policy, with agency-specific adaptations permitted if they remain interoperable across agencies

NIST must review and consider revisions to standards every 2 years through a public notice and comment process with minimum 60-day comment periods

NOAA specifically must ensure its data assets support AI/machine learning integration for operational forecasting (including model analyses, satellite datasets, and environmental observations), with annual briefings to Congress for 5 years on implementation progress
