Senate resolution congratulates and commends Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. on reaching 119 years of service since its founding on December 4, 1906

Alpha Phi Alpha was the first intercollegiate fraternity founded by African-American men, established at Cornell University by seven founders known as "The Seven Jewels"

The fraternity is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, with more than 720 college and alumni chapters serving communities across the United States, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia

Notable members recognized include Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Senator Edward Brooke, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and the current President of Liberia

The fraternity led the effort to erect the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and operates programs including voter registration initiatives, educational advancement efforts, and youth mentorship through "Project Alpha"
