Public employee insurance in Utah is prohibited from covering, paying for, or reimbursing hormonal transgender treatment, primary sex characteristic surgeries, or secondary sex characteristic surgeries effective May 6, 2026

Individuals already receiving hormonal transgender treatment through public employee insurance as of May 5, 2026 may continue that specific course of treatment if a physician determines it is medically necessary

Public employee insurance must provide equivalent coverage for detransition procedures if it previously paid for transition procedures performed before May 6, 2026

The state will defend and indemnify any person acting under state authority to enforce this law against claims or damages, including court costs and attorney fees

Public employers covered include state government, political subdivisions, their subunits, and state institutions of higher education
