Employers are prohibited from requesting, requiring, or prohibiting employees or job applicants from voluntarily cooperating (or declining to cooperate) with law enforcement officers

Employers cannot take adverse action, refuse to hire, or penalize workers for cooperating with law enforcement, declining to cooperate (unless legally required), or expressing intent to do either

Law enforcement officers covered include those whose primary duties involve crime prevention/detection and enforcement of criminal or immigration statutes at federal, state, or local levels

Employers may still require employees to protect the employer's legal rights during voluntary interactions with law enforcement occurring within the scope of employment

Employees or applicants injured by violations may bring civil action seeking monetary damages, injunctive relief, and specific performance; effective date is May 6, 2026
