Local education agency (LEA) governing boards must provide written notice to property owners within 200 feet of a proposed artificial turf installation at least 30 days before the required public meeting.

LEA governing boards must post notice of the proposed installation on their website at least 60 days before the meeting and update the posting within 7 days of any changes.

Written notice must include the location, size, type of turf and infill material, intended use, meeting details, and information on how to provide public comment.

The installation must be placed on a regular meeting agenda where the board presents information and allows public comment before any approval vote.

Requirements apply only to initial installation of artificial turf on athletic fields of at least 5,000 square feet; maintenance, repair, resurfacing, or replacement with natural grass are exempt. Effective May 6, 2026.
