Vacancies in U.S. Senate, state legislature, and State Board of Education positions must be filled by gubernatorial appointment of an individual from the same registered political party the prior officeholder belonged to at the time they were last elected or appointed

County office vacancies must be filled by county legislative body appointment of an individual selected by the political party of the prior officeholder at the time of their last election or appointment

County/district attorney vacancies in jurisdictions with 15+ attorneys follow the same party-based nomination process, with the county central committee of the prior officeholder's party submitting nominees

County legislative bodies have 7 calendar days to appoint a party-nominated individual after receiving the name; if they fail to act, the county clerk notifies the governor who must appoint within 10 calendar days
