Residential properties with four or fewer units constructed on or after January 1, 1992 are exempt from asbestos inspection and sample analysis requirements

Asbestos testing may be required for residential properties (four or fewer units) built before January 1, 1981, or those built between 1981-1992 when renovation, demolition, or disposal affects specific materials

Materials subject to testing requirements for 1981-1992 properties include sprayed-on textured ceilings, asbestos cement siding/roofing, vinyl flooring products, thermal-system insulation, and vermiculite insulation

Properties where samples are analyzed and found to contain greater than 1% asbestos remain subject to abatement rules
