Defines "marital property" as any property, debt, or obligation acquired by either spouse during the marriage, including pre-marital assets that have become commingled or that the other spouse has augmented, maintained, or protected

Excludes from marital property: assets acquired before marriage (unless commingled), gifts, inheritances, property acquired in exchange for excluded property, assets excluded by spousal agreement, and appreciation on excluded property

Establishes a legal presumption that marital property shall be divided equally between divorcing parties

Allows unequal division only when a party demonstrates "exceptional circumstances," such as one spouse substantially undermining the other's financial stability or wastefully depleting marital assets in anticipation of divorce
