Chief sponsors may abandon their legislation by submitting an abandoning legislation form to the chief clerk before the bill passes the Senate on third reading

Abandoning legislation has the effect of striking the enacting clause, and once abandoned, legislation cannot be revived

The presiding officer must publicly announce the abandonment within one legislative day of the form submission

The Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel must note the abandonment on the legislation's webpage

Representatives may still introduce new legislation identical to abandoned bills; effective date is May 6, 2026
