City attorneys may employ deputy attorneys to perform public prosecutor or civil counsel duties, and may specially deputize licensed Utah attorneys in good standing for limited time or purpose

Courts may enter a conviction for a lower degree of offense if a defendant provides substantial assistance in the criminal investigation, arrest, or prosecution of another individual within one year after sentencing

When evaluating substantial assistance, courts must consider the significance, truthfulness, nature, extent, timeliness of assistance, any injury/risk to the defendant or family, and the prosecuting attorney's evaluation

The substantial assistance reduction requires a joint motion from both the prosecuting attorney and defendant, and the court must find the reduction serves the interest of justice and public safety
