Housing authorities in first-class cities must offer rent reporting to tenants at lease signing and at least once annually, starting July 1, 2026

Rent reporting allows housing authorities to report tenant rent payments to nationwide consumer reporting agencies, regardless of whether payments comply with lease terms

Housing authorities may charge a fee for rent reporting limited to actual cost; failure to pay the fee cannot be treated as a lease violation or grounds for eviction

Renters may enroll or unenroll from rent reporting at any time, but must wait six months to reenroll after opting out or failing to pay the reporting fee

The rent reporting provisions are set to automatically repeal on December 31, 2027
