Law enforcement agencies must maintain and annually review policies governing employee use of generative artificial intelligence, specifying which AI technologies are permitted and for what tasks

Policies must document each AI technology's available oversight or safeguard settings (such as human editing requirements, AI-generated content disclaimers, and crime-type limitations) and whether each setting is required, unused, or optional

Police reports or law enforcement records created wholly or partially with generative AI must include a disclaimer and author certification that the content was reviewed for accuracy

Agencies must publicly post their AI policies on their website (or the Utah Public Notice Website if no agency website exists) and update postings within 30 days of any changes; prison/jail security uses are exempt from public posting

Effective May 6, 2026; agency noncompliance does not preclude use of AI technology or AI-generated evidence
