Law enforcement agencies are prohibited from using unmarked vehicles for patrol assignments where the primary purpose is enforcing traffic infractions under Utah's Traffic Code or local traffic ordinances

Unmarked vehicles are defined as those lacking writing or markings on both sides that clearly identify them as law enforcement vehicles from at least 25 feet away

Exceptions allow unmarked vehicles for addressing documented specific traffic issues within a community and for public safety operations involving crosswalk enforcement, construction zones, DUI enforcement, stopped school buses, and school zone speed enforcement
