VA HB1243

Requires the Virginia Board of Education to use passing scores from expedited Standards of Learning (SOL) assessment retakes instead of original failing scores when calculating school passage rates for state accountability purposes.

Applies to students who initially fail an SOL assessment during the regular testing period, then retake the test on an expedited basis and receive a passing score.

Amends § 22.1-253.13:3 of the Code of Virginia, with provisions effective both currently and as of July 1, 2026.

Aims to improve school accountability ratings by crediting successful remediation efforts when students demonstrate proficiency on expedited retakes.
