Commissioner of Health must convene a multidisciplinary work group to evaluate the feasibility of a statewide maternal health safety initiative focused on improving antepartum and postpartum outcomes

Initiative would include patient education, wristband identification systems, clinical alerts, and community engagement components

Work group must assess costs, funding strategies, public education needs, develop a data collection framework, and propose an implementation rollout plan

Members include representatives from the Department of Health, Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, Medical Society of Virginia, midwife organizations, hospitals, insurers, public health experts, and patient advocates

Interim report due November 1, 2026, with final recommendations due July 1, 2027, submitted to House and Senate health committees and the Commission on Women's Health
