Margaret Peters Stalnaker, longtime Chesapeake resident and librarian, died on January 29, 2026, and the General Assembly honors her contributions to literacy and community leadership

Served as director of libraries and research services for Chesapeake Public Library from 1985 to 2008, overseeing construction of a new main library and six branch libraries

Helped Chesapeake Public Library earn recognition as one of the top 20 public library systems in the country; also served as acting assistant city manager from 1999 to 2002

Received numerous honors including Chesapeake Woman of the Year (2003), First Citizen of Chesapeake (2005), and the Semper Virginia Award (2005) for contributions to literacy

Resolution directs the Clerk of the House of Delegates to present a copy to her family as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory
