Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1906 as the nation's oldest intercollegiate historically African American Greek-letter fraternity; the Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter was chartered on December 12, 1975

The chapter has promoted scholarship and community welfare through leadership workshops, educational trips, volunteer work with local shelters, Special Olympics, and Adopt-a-Highway programs

Established the Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington Educational and Charitable Foundation to manage the Jewel Scholars Scholarship Program, providing financial assistance to college students for several decades

The chapter has received recognition from organizations including the March of Dimes and the African American Community Alliance for its service
