Willie Wayne Tucker retired from the Danville Sheriff's Office after 41 years of dedicated service, having been hired in 1985 by the city's first sheriff, Charlie Smith

Prior to his law enforcement career, Tucker served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1983, attaining the rank of corporal (E-4)

Tucker rose through the ranks from sergeant (1988) to lieutenant (2010) to captain overseeing court services (2021), serving under all four of Danville's sheriffs

Tucker received numerous honors including a Life Saver Medal, Danville Fraternal Order of Police Officer of the Year (2010), and Corrections Officer of the Year (1993)

The Virginia General Assembly formally commends Tucker for his contributions to public safety in Danville and the Commonwealth
