Glasgow Middle School in Fairfax County celebrates its 65th anniversary in 2026, having officially opened at its permanent location in spring 1961

The school was the first of eight intermediate schools established by Fairfax County Public Schools following a successful pilot program at Parklawn Elementary School in the late 1950s

Named for Ellen Glasgow, a Pulitzer Prize-winning Richmond novelist and women's suffrage supporter

The school was organized in 1959 and held initial classes at Parklawn Elementary School and Falls Church High School while its building was under construction, later adopting the name "Glasgow Middle School" in the 1990s

The Virginia General Assembly formally commends the school for developing lifelong learners and preparing students for success in high school, higher education, and careers
