Highland Telephone Cooperative is celebrating the 120th anniversary of its charter in 2025, making it the oldest telephone cooperative in Virginia and one of only 11 in the state

The cooperative traces its origins to the 1890s with a line between Monterey and Staunton, was officially chartered as Mutual Telephone of Highland, Inc. in February 1905, and incorporated as a cooperative corporation on March 31, 1980

The member-owned cooperative currently serves more than 1,300 access lines across five Highland County communities: Blue Grass, Hightown, Mill Gap, Monterey, and Mustoe

The Virginia House of Delegates formally commends the cooperative and directs the Clerk to prepare a copy of the resolution for presentation to the organization
